Please meet Dr Georgina Keogh, General Medical SHO at St George's, London. Georgie was proposed by her sister-in-law @tckeogh. St George's is my local hospital so I was especially thrilled when Georgie agreed to be part of Tom's @tomcroftartist brilliant initiative, #portraitsfornhsheroes. I met Georgie via Zoom on her day 'off', and like so many must be who have had direct contact with the reaping-hook this virus swings amongst us, she was on her own processing her exhaustion and exposure to grief that now makes up a working day far more than normal. I set no firm parameters for the portrait other than no smiling teeth (I know my limitations), and left the choice of image up to Georgie. When I finally received her selection of images, I was moved to tears. The ability to step into vulnerability, to share the intrinsic humanity beneath the weight of the 'hero' label is no small thing for a person to do these days. As a painter I am both humbled and honoured to have been entrusted to capture this moment.
